What a bizarre game. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Final thoughts under the cut. Spoiler warning.

The Good:

Quirky, likeable characters

Engaging mystery

Decently creepy enemies

Attention to detail on townsfolk’s routines

Unexpected twists hinted at through close observation of townsfolk

Feels like Twin Peaks

“F K…. in the coffee!”

The “Sinner’s Sandwich” scene

Comprehensive movie trivia while driving

The Bad:

Everything else while driving

Especially the stupid driving challenges

Insta-death Quick Time Events

Mini-map totally useless.

PS2-era modelling and texture work

Very little monster variety

Repetitive monster dialogue “yOuuUuuUu” “don’t want to diiiiiiiiiiiiie…”

Infinite ammo weapons accessible too early, negates any scary

The WHY THIS:

Amazing Grace while killing people in the 50s???

York’s grotesque smile.

George becomes a big ol’ japanese ogre demon???

Suddenly, a giant dog?!

The jolly fat guy is some sort of extradimensional being…

…that plants evil life-sucking trees in people…

…and turns into a weird frog monster…

…and then a huge version of himself with shockwave punches

Oh well. At least nobody got their soul sucked in to a drawer knob.

Things I still wonder:

Was York actually a benevolent being from the “white room” dimension, like Kaysen is from the “red room”?

Why did everybody suddenly refer to him as Zach when he remembered the past?

Was all the otherworldly stuff in Zach’s head, or do the other townsfolk see the shadows too? By that same token, could Emily’s otherworld encounter have just been a fantasy of York’s as he awaited rescue? (she only mentions killing Thomas after she finds York, nothing about the zombie ghosts).

All in all, a fantastic, unique game.

I missed a good deal of the side quests due to not realizing that the quest deadlines could be put off to new days. (Never met Becky before she died, only met Quint and his dad and the gun shop guy at the town hall.) I was impressed at how much of the lore was revealed through the side missions.

Persona 3 questions sufficiently anwered.

Thanks Dawn, Cad, and other folks. The general consensus seems to be that The Answer explains things significantly, but takes at least another 20 hours, and is pretty grindy. I’ll likely check it out sometime.

For now, I think I will devote attention towards my other games which I’ve been neglecting. Any suggestions on which to start with?

Just finished Persona 3, about 90 hours in.

I enjoyed it for the most part, but I do have some questions about the ending. edit: questions answered! thanks all!

So the main character seals the evil death moon away with the power of friendship and then falls asleep and dies… two months later?

Is it people remembering the events that causes him to suddenly die?

Or did he die at the time of the boss fight, and the two days of meeting with your Social Links was just an afterlife/closure thing?

How long is “The Answer”, and is it even worth playing through?

I am about 74 hours in to Persona 3. I’m still not sure if I like it or not.
